Amy Weeks opened Amy’s Canine Kindergarten in Tampa Bay years ago as an option to traditional, harsher methods used in the community. Spending her days putting the tools of positive training into the hands of pet owners and future dog trainers has been her goal for over 20 years. She discovered her love of canine behavior when reading Nicolas Dodmans’ book, “The Dog Who Loved Too Much”. This single book sparked her interest, and that interest has never stopped.
Amy is a Certified Canine Behavior Consultant and well as a Certified Dog Trainer. She is experienced in working with everything from puppy development to complex behavioral issues. Her services include behavioral consultations, puppy and basic manners training, Therapy and Canine Good Citizen training and testing, and Service Dog consultations.
Amy has diversified her experience along the way by working as a service dog trainer for Florida Guide Dogs for the Deaf and Therapetics Service Dogs of Oklahoma.
As a parent, she has seen first hand the struggles parents can have juggling children alongside dogs. Her passion for bite prevention landed her as a Family Paws Parent Educator. She currently provides consultations to expecting parents living with a dog, helping make the transitions as stress free as possible. Amy also provides monthly presentations for expecting parents at local hospitals.
Along with her certifications, she is committed to educating the public on positive training methods in lieu of force training. She is featured monthly on Tampa’s Fox 13 news program, “Good Morning Tampa Bay”, giving additional insight into the benefits of positive training. She has been published in Bella Dog Magazine and numerous newspapers throughout the country, as well as in "ADPT’ Tips from Top Trainers”.
Amy has mentored several “trainers in training” through the Victoria Stilwell Academy and Animal Behavior College. A big part of her passion is empowering the next generation of dog owners and dog trainers in using positive training techniques. She continues her education by attending seminars, reading, listening to podcasts, and consulting with other trainers.
She currently lives in Odessa, Florida. She has 3 grown children and has been married to her husband for over 30 years. She shares her house with her German Shepherd (Greta), her Greyhound (Elgin) and her cat (BF).
