Arlene has lived, loved and worked with animals all her life. From helping at the local vets, working on farms, owning dogs, horses, rabbits, pigeons, budgies and all other small furries - her life has been built around animals. Arlene has always had a love of outdoors, the countryside, and everything that it brings. Currently Arlene now owns two labradors, May and Salt - having lost her border terrier a few years ago.
Arlene worked in an office for nearly 20 years whilst still loving and working around animals in her spare time. Weekends were spent horse riding, competing in cross country trials and show jumping. Walking her dogs and helping at the farm where her horses were kept meant Arlene was still able to get her animal fix!
Finally in 2018 Arlene was able to leave office life and started dog walking full time. When Covid hit and all dog walking was cancelled, Arlene took the plunge and signed up to the Victoria Stilwell Academy - completing her training by the end of 2020 and setting up Calm Canine Training. As well as 121 training and dog walking, Arlene also offers tailored walk and train sessions and solo walks for reactive dogs.
In 2021 Arlene met with Kirsten McLeod and together they set up weekly group classes and workshops, these classes and workshop have gone from strength to strength. Workshops covering gun dog training, loose leash, recall, scent work, trick training and husbandry, frustrated greeters and many others run each week. Puppy Classes run twice weekly each month for five weeks.
After completing her Victoria Stilwell Course Arlene then spent time shadowing and working with other trainers to build on her experience. Learning in dog training never stops and Arlene has completed many science based courses with the likes of School of Canine Science, IMDT and Kim Brophey. These courses cover a variety of training including puppies, scent work, genetics and reactivity amongst others. As well as regularly attending training seminars and webinars. Arlene is constantly furthering her knowledge in order to do the very best for her customers. Arlene is also a member of the Pet Professional Guild of the British Isles, an organisation who advocates only force free training and the UK Dog Behaviour and Training Charter.
