Re: Old dog doesn't want to walk

I now want to ask about making walks interesting. Or rather, how to get him out the door happily. I read the topic "Stubborn walker" http://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6361&start=30 here on the forum and realized I have a similar problem. I noticed today, that "le...

Re: Dog Breeds or Personalities that may Travel Better

I'm thinking a small-sized dog would be best for you, because smaller dogs are allowed to be with you up in the salon of the plane rather than in crates somewhere down separated from you. Which would make plane rides acceptable. Smaller dogs, it seems to me, are also more frequently allowed to resta...

Thank you so much for your answer! It has inspired me to collaborate in shelters and try to help them, while possibly getting good experience myself

Want to help, but don't know how

I live in Estonia, and here among the dog trainers there is a long history of traditional training. What is more, one of the new "waves" the dog owners here have accepted is the Dog Listener concept. Which is sad. I'm not saying people in Estonia haven't heard of clicker training, yes they...

Re: Old dog doesn't want to walk

Thanks for your answer! I tried giving raw carrot slices soaked in chicken stock, but he didn't want them. Then I boiled them soft with potatoes and he liked it, so I guess I will have to keep boiling my vegetables. What kind of vegetables should I give him? I started to think maybe potatoes are too...

Old dog doesn't want to walk

Hello! I have a 10 year-old slightly overweight male golden retriever. He began gaining weight after neutering 3 years ago. He eats diet food now - Specific Weight Reduction. We live in a flat so it's necessary to go out walking with him many times a day. The problem here is that he doesn't want to ...

Re: Door Knock = BARK, BARK, JUMP! BARK, BARK! (help!)

I had a friend with a dog just like that. When the doorbell rang, the dachshund would go absolutely nuts and barking. What worked with her, was that every time there was a doorbell, she got a treat (something she really liked, cheese!). She was so surprised by that and didn't bark, because she was e...

Re: Chihuahua puppy refusing to walk on sidewalk

Maybe you should try throwing pieces of yummy food in front of her, so she would have to stand up and take a few steps to reach it? Gradually you can make the distances longer and then make him walk by your side and give her treats for walking nicely.
