Positively Success Story: Stella
Stella, my big girl lab mix, was rescued from a high kill shelter a day before her time was up! We planned on fostering her and instantly fell in love with her. She was super sweet and smart and loving with people, but was scary when she saw other dogs. This was a problem cause I had 2 small dogs.
We started with a doggie break. She stayed with my fiancé and had zero contact with another dog for a couple weeks so she could decompress. Then we started letting her see my dogs from a distance and separated by a fence. If there was a reaction I'd walk away quickly.
She learned to look to me for treats. We progressed slowly to being close at the fence to having her in the same room as other dogs (on leashes of course.)
With consistency and time and positive methods I learned from Victoria Stillwell, Stella is now a happy member of our fur ever family! We still foster and she loves meeting new pups 🙂
