Interesting video

Post by Horace's Mum »

Don't ask me how I found this one, I don't usually trawl this persons videos but this one struck me as worth thinking about. It involves a dog trainer who obviously uses choke chains and the odd leash pop, and yet seems to have a good understanding of finding out what motivates an individual dog and how to use it, also it was fantastic to see him remove one of the other dogs just because he was aware of him looking at the dog he was working with in the wrong way.

It is probably a somewhat confusing video to have on here, because it is such a mix of ideas, but I think it is proof that it is possible to learn something from everyone. Forget the other guy, just listen to the dog trainer and watch what he does.

Interesting, especially as they were saying what we say, he is an experienced trainer, or supposed to be, he has more experience in getting a dog to focus on him, the ordinary dog owner doesn't have this experience and this is what we work with on here. Teaching a dog to "Watch me" is teaching them to focus on us, using this with a dog aggressive dog that is just far enough away to not react is teaching the dog what he is. If we told a normal dog owner to do what he was doing they would get completely confused and wouldn't be able to do it because we can't show them.

He was also using prong collars on the dogs which we don't use.

That was really interesting!

Mattie - how can you see they had prong collars on? I know his dog had what loked like a choke chain with big 'links'....but would that have possibly had prongs on the inside?

I looked like a prong collar by the way the links were, it is like one I saw on a dog once. This is what they look like, http://www.cheappetproducts.net/PRONG_C ... 62860.html how can anyone put one of these on their dogs
