With yoghurt, the lactose is fermented and so should not give rise to digestive problems. I'm lactose-intolerant but yoghurt has never been a problem. You can also get goat or sheep yoghurt if a dog has beef issues. But by all means stick with the pumpkin if it suits better. Feed the dog in front of you

With black-runny-poo potential, feed new food in the morning at a time you are home - then you can be there to see what happens.

Good luck with the carpet!

You're so brave for persevering despite the rocket bottom issues Tony is having. Well done, I do think that RAW is the way to go however I have heard of people having trouble with switching over larger breeds and getting the balance right to stop exploding bums.

FWIW - Honey needs a good bit of bone in her diet to make soild poos, not like you've had to deal with but they will be very soft if she doesn't eat bone for a few days.

Minced beef/beef also give her black loose poops so I only feed her tiny tiny amounts of beef at a time.

The first few times I gave Honey a chicken wing she licked and licked before she started to chew, I think it would be an idea to give him a meal sized chunk of chicken and leave him to figure it out (supervised of course). If he's licking he's trying and he'll get the hang of it. If he wanders off just give him the chunk back for his next meal, missing a meal won't be a problem for him but it might give him the motivation to try a nibble, there's a saying here that sounds better in Irish but it translates as "there's no sauce like hunger"  .

I will try yogurt if the pumpkin doesn't seem to be helping after a few days :)

I have two kennels for him, one in the (carpeted) bedroom and one in the (tile) kitchen/dining room area. I took all of the bedding out of the kitchen crate and put him in there with the leg quarter so that he couldn't take it elsewhere. I can also easily wash the plastic tray after meals. He had been licking for about 15 minutes, and when I decided to cut some pieces off he had stopped licking altogether and was just staring at it, lol. I'll give him more time for today's breakfast. Stand by to hear about this morning's poop after we return from our walk. He didn't poop again yesterday, which I was surprised about, but then again he barely got a few mouthfuls of anything.

Question: He has had pork neck bones before and those definitely produced a crumbly bone poo. Would it be wrong of me to give him some of those with some chicken?

Oreo doesn't poop everyday while she's on raw, sometimes, she poops every other day. Your boy may just be starting to get used to eating raw too?

If he's been good on pork, why not just stop the chicken and start his raw over again with pork? You can give trotters, ribs or any other meaty part too. There's no hard and fast rule saying that one must start with chicken. If pork's good for your boy, pork's the suitable first protein choice then. After he's doing good for a few weeks on pork, then start experimenting with chicken again... =D

I don't know if it was so much the pork, or the fact that the neck bones were like 95% bone. Isn't pork considered a red meat?

His poop was still really mushy, but not nearly so close to a liquid state as yesterday. Still many undigested little chicken bits.

As long as he's not having uncontrollable poos (http://theapprenticeshipofpasha.wordpre ... l-factory/  ) and/or poos with shards of bone in them and/or his poos are getting worse not better then I would keep doing what you are doing for at least a week if not longer to give his digestive system time to wake up.

In terms of how long he is taking to get going I'd lave him with it provided he is interacting with the food so that he can figure out what to do. Rather than cut chunks off part way through him licking it you can cheat by cutting slits into the meat so that bits are hanging off or bashing it with a mallet a little before you hand it over. It may take a while for him to figure it out initially but that's not a problem at all. It took Milo hours http://tinkerwolf.com/2012/04/26/milo-and-his-wing/

Yeah, I've definitely experienced uncontrollable blasts. That's why beef scares me now, haha.

It took a bit of coaxing (and by coaxing, I mean cutting chunks partially away from the main mass and sticking the partially-freed flap of meat in his mouth  ) but tonight he started to use the teeth toward the back of his mouth to munch on the chicken. I let him get a few bits off before sending him to the bedroom so I could remove it. He may have gotten more than I intend...at least I'm home for the rest of the night and awake another 4 hours.

Pork is white meat.

So a very small, sticky but not runny poop last night. Only pooped once today, at noon. However, I was at work and asked OH to feed Antonio...I told him to try to lure Tony away after he'd eaten half of what was left, but apparently he ended up getting the whole thing (poor guy is hungry!). Sooo I'm on rocket butt alert this evening.

As an aside, the smell of his breath has already gone away, and his poop is much less pungent.

This is where you give praise for not having a long haired dog. Furry bum plus sticky poo = rummaging around with a poo bag much to your dog's indignation

It's okay to trim their knickers so this doesn't happen quite so spectacularly.

Knew a lady with 5! Samoyeds, all fed on total crap. Rubbish food plus VERY fluffy white bums made for some horrendous poo incidents

I've toyed with the idea. What I particularly love is Ted's bum is surrounded by white fur so although he's largely black when the wind blows you get a right eyeful
