When to toss the chew sticks

When should you throw out bully/flossie sticks or anything like them? I have a bully stick that my puppy just loves to bits, but it's developed a hardened casing/webbing from too much love. She'll still chew it, but less enthusiastically than her fresh flossie stick.

I would say it's just about time to replace it. When it is cracked, has sharp, jagged edges, sharp pieces breaking off, is terribly frayed, has stuffing coming out, etc., it's time to replace it.
