Suspected allergy or skin condition

Hey, we took Charlie to the vets today because he has been itching and biting his paws ALOT! I have always thought he did it a little too much but vets and others just kept saying it was nothing to worry about, he is my first puppy but I still knew something just wasn't right.
Anyway I finally got someone to pay attention and my OH took Charlie to a specialist today who said he gad some symptoms of scabies but that it may be an allergy. He was given treatment and we have to feed him a plain salmon and potato dog biscuit diet.
I have a few questions...as he has almost always scratched and bitten paws exsessively do yu think an allergy I'd mire likely?
Can we give him anything else food wise? Even if it's carrot slices it something, anything that is different from what he rill be eating at every meal (he loves to get his treat when he pottys in the right place.)

At certain times of year my dogs get itchy paws and it is caused by mites so small you can hardly see them. I footwash in salt water with a few drops of lavender oil about three times a week for a couple of weeks and it stops.

Oddly, anal gland problems sometimes present as itchy feet too.

Most of the front paw chewing I have seen have been the result of food allergies. They can develop at any point in time if the dog has been on the food for years, allergies can develop. I would check for common offenders of beef, corn, and dyes in food stuff, but it can be anything.

Chewing/itchy feet is a very common sign of allergies. Thankfully this can be controlled by diet - but it can take up to 5-8 weeks for them to get over their allergy after a food change, so do not worry if you don't see immediate results.
