Hello!
We have an 8month old chow chow and are now at the stage where she is really good on the lead and doesn't pull anymore and so we want to be able to let her off but don't really know how to approach it? We have a couple of secure fenced in fields so we are gonna try her in them first so we can get her if she does decide to run off. so she can't go too far.
We thought about using her on a long line first and using treats and her favourite toys to help with the recall but other than that we don 't really know any good tricks other than to sound excited and make her want to come back to us. Any tips would be much appreciated thanks!

You have the right idea already , try that first , and always sound exciting so the dog will want to come back to you .. once the dog has come back prase the dog and then let it play again do not only call then dog when its at the end of the walk , or it will not want to return to you , its having fun playing .*Lucy* wrote:

And try not to get anxious and start chasing her to get her back! If she is going away from you, run in the opposite direction, squeal, jump up and down, sit on the floor, anything but go towards her. The advantage of using a longline to begin with is that you can slowly cut a piece off at a time until you have no line left, that way she doesn't suddenly feel free and by the time she is she will have learnt to come back. Also if there is a little bit of line dangling, it is easier to catch her if she does misbehave
