Dog treats for a dog with chronic kidney failure?

Post by mrsheatherreese »

I have recently adopted a lab, and he is very eager to learn, and responds very well to commands, but I feel he would do better with rewards. He has chronic kidney failure, and can have no protien in his diet. He eats science diet g/d with epakitin on it, and has one small milkbone a day, which was okayed by the vet. But with only being ablet o give him one treat a day, that doesn't help with rewarding him for good behavior, or training him. Are there other things I can safely give him?

Instead of food rewards, find what he likes to do - a game of tug, a retrieve, carrying a toy that only appears during training sessions - and reward him that way.
A dog is never bad or naughty - it is simply being a dog
