Has anyone ever used the ace bandage wrap to calm a fearful or anxious dog? If so, what kind of results did you get? Also, has anyone heard of t-touch? It is a form of massage for fearful dogs, etc.
Thanks for any input,
Kathy

Tonks walks on the halti harness which is supposed to mimic the body wrap, calm excited and nervous dogs. It definately has a calming affect on her.
If she is getting over excited i never hold her by the collar but wrap my arms around her chest and she soon calms down.
I don't know a lot about tellington touch but i do use the small circle massage on dogs to calm them down when i working in class with them or dog sitting/walking them.

I do put a body wrap on one of my dogs but use a horse's tail bandage instead. It does help him a lot with his fears, it works especially with his fear for fireworks.
I also use TTouch with him and find it very good when my dogs are frightened in the vets.

As we have a lot of people coming on the Board who say that they have just acquired a pup/dog and it is fearful, I must add a warning:
Body wrap is fine if the dog knows and trusts you. It is TERRIFYING for a dog that has only just come into your life and may have had bad beginnings in other places. Dogs have to learn to enjoy being held and hugged, and the confinement of the wrap might push a fearful dog into biting or panicking.
Gentle massage is a good way to bond, but unless you and the dog are good friends never bend over the dog or hold it still while you are massaging. Always give the dog the option of moving away from any situation it finds uncomfortable.

This is something that I have been interested in following the problems I have been having with Bruce and his reactions to other dogs. (I have written about this in the Methods section)
I would like to find out more about this technique - for those of you who use it, how did you learn how to do it? I am tempted to buy one of the DVD's but would appreciate your feedback first. There are a few clips on youtube but understandably they control what is on public display so as to make sure they get their sales!
It's so strange that after years in the dog and horse world I have only just heard about it!! Guess sometimes we just miss things.... haha.

If you want to be mugged by my dogs you are welcome to come and I will show you have to do TTouch and put the body wrap on. I live just outside Wakefield.
