My dog not getting along with newly adopted pet

I have a 5 year old mix breed dog that is very reactive to other dogs she doesn't know. She has quite a few dog friends that she plays with and wanted to adopt a friend for her from the shelter.I took her to the shelter with me and she seemed to get along with this particular young dog so adopted her. This dog is still fairly young and wants to play alot which seems my dog is not ready to do yet.. She would growl at the new dog who would run off. The other day, she didn't run off and they got into a fight. How can I get them to get along and eventually play together? Please help...
