Potty Training with Crate

Hello,

I have a question. We recently purchased an 8 week old German Shepherd puppy from a breeder and I am having debate with my husband on potty training. We both work full-time jobs and we plan on using the crate to keep our puppy out of mischief until he gets older. However, I need advice on whether or not one of us should come home to let him out during the workday. I know he probably won't be able to hold it in the beginning, but my other dog who was 4 months old when we bought him and is now 6 years old got used to it and within two weeks was completely potty trained. Is this type of training considered cruel for a two month old? I don't want to stress our puppy out, but if we have to go home I also need to know around the time we can start weaning him off that habit.
