Body language books?

Post by rachel540 »

Hi! Sorry i wasnt sure where to post this - but wondered if anyone could recommend a good book on a dogs body language? After reading alot of comments on here i am doubting myself that i actually understand pepper and her actions/behaviours. For example why does she jump up at people and lunge towards dogs, is she just "young and fussy" like everyone keeps telling us, or is there something im not picking up on. Also her recent skittishness when she hears bangs and thuds, how can i improve these situations, what signs am i missing before she dives onto my lap. Thanks in advance x

For the Love of a Dog: Understanding Emotion in You and Your Best Friend by Patricia McConnell
http://www.amazon.com/For-Love-Dog-Unde ... 650&sr=8-3
This one focuses on specific emotions and delves deep into their meanings and is helpful in understanding body language.

I haven't read The Other End of the Leash for a while, so I'm not sure how much on body language is in there, but it's a helpful book for understanding your dog. Also by Patricia McConnell http://www.amazon.com/The-Other-End-Lea ... 875&sr=8-1

Clicker Training is a really good way to learn to understand body language. This book is not all about dogs (dolphins, rhinos, fish, crabs, dogs, gymnasts, and others are mentioned) but it really changed me a lot. Reaching the Animal Mind: Clicker Training and What it Teaches Us about All Animals
