Dylan also knows a stop whistle....apart from if he is after a god scent or has seen a squirrel he doesnt hear it!!

Yeah, this seems to be the issue. It's not so much that they're ignoring you, it's that they simply don't hear you. I've pretty much accepted that I'm never going to get Rupert to recall in situations like this but I refuse to give up completely.
