Laying trails for hounds

Post by MissCarla »

Hello! In order to exercise my hound mix Casey, I'd like to start laying scent trails. It's becoming clear to me that our daily walks and other activities are not enough. I read a bit about it in another thread and I'm planning on having her 'find' her breakfast in the yard tomorrow. What about the duck scent and other things that come in bottles? Should there be a prize at the end? She has a super high prey drive, I'm sure she'd love to find a live duck.

Rather than duck scent, use food scent, and make sure she can find a tiny amount of food every few paces to start with, and 'jackpot' at the end of something seriously yummy.

Gradually you can phase out the along-the-trail goodies but keep the jackpot.

Make the food scent by putting something smelly in a spray bottle, topping up with water and shaking it well.
