Dog afraid of clicker- help?

Post by dustyhelp »

I bought a dog training book and i read that clicker training is the most effective way to train a dog. So i tried using the clicker for my dog, but when he hears it, he gets scared of it and tries to walk away, sort of cowering. What can i do to help him so i can still use it for his training?
My dog runs, i fall behind. I run, I still fall behind.

You could try the click of a pen. It is nowhere as loud. If he is still skittish then you might have to just use your voice as a marker. Choose a word like "YES!" or "BRAVO!" or whatever word you like.

My first clicker was really loud and it really scared my dog. I ended up buying one with a volume control, which I really like.

You can use the click of a pen, dogs can hear it and you will always have one handy.
