can any one help?

Post by doggy style »

I figured i would post this and see if either victoria or any one in the bussiness/industry would be able to help. My situation is a have an american bulldog about 7 or 8 years old.She was my cousins dog until they were both fatally shot. She survived a bullet wound to the head and was the only survivor. After the incident she was taken to a humane society where i got the impression they wanted to put her down.i felt so helpless there was nothing i could do. It was a sign to me that she lived so i went to phoenix from las vegas to get her. ive had her for about 5 years now and the way the economy is going ive had to move back in with my dad and he doesnt want a dog in the house.

The way things are going unfortunately i cant keep her and am looking to rehome her. But no one wants to deal with an older and very dog agressive dog. I have talked to every humane society and even the aspca and they said we cant help and the last thing i want to do is to put her down. I see these tv shows with similair dogs that are being rehomed. This dog deserves a good happy life and i need help finding that for her. If any one can help me or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

I really do wish I could provide you with a nice solution to this.

Sadly even if you had months and months to find her a great home yourself, you might well not find it.

There are quite simply, too many dogs and not enough homes.

There are just more dogs out there than there are people wanting dogs, and thats before you break it down and remove all those people who want a dog and are not suitable, would be suitable but already have problem dogs, only want specific breeds, only want a puppy, only want a dog friendly dog....

Theres not enough homes out there for problem free dogs - those who have minor problems such as silly breed perceptions (ie, all greyhounds are vicious and require millions of hours worth of exercise, or 'all rottwielers are kid murdering savages') or are simply specialist breeds that dont suit the majority of homes, these wait in shelters and rescues for months or years...

The problem dogs taht do have a behavioural issue that a simple change of home wont solve.... they are few and far between.

And thats if you had months and months to find one - they dont come along in an instant and you'd spend a long time weeding out the muppets and morons who want a big 'impressive' dog that makes them look 'hard'...

If her living outside the house isnt an option (And if there isnt a secure yard, it isnt one), and you finding somewhere else to live isnt an option... then the sensiblest and kindest thing you can do for her, is to have her euthanised.

Its a horrible thing to do and a horrible thing for me to have to suggest but the brutal, honest reality is, IF you found a shelter to take her, the likelyhood is shed wind up going nuts in a kennel and the only people she would appeal to would be the 'wrong' people.

Dogs live for 'now'... they dont live for the future like we insist on doing - if a dogs 'now' is horrible then there had better be some incredible justification for that, and I personally dont believe that 'maybe one day someone will take you home' is that justification.

(I believe that 'in two weeks time I guarantee...' is.... but 'maybe... one day'... no.)

Is it possible to make your dads yard secure and devote enough time to her out there that she doesnt get upset by the change of routine, or does he really mean 'no dogs at my house' meaning none on the property, rather than just none 'inside'the house.

If it was me.... well... I wouldnt live with my dad if you paid me quite honestly (and he would ban dogs from the house) - I would do what I could to keep my dogs but I would have the problem ones put down before theyd go to any shelter. (Knowing what their individual problems are, some would be fine and some would absolutely not be).

Sorry that I cant offer better help there.
