my dogs body language
my dog is 13 years old and a staffie cross , but whenever he greets another dog( dog or ***** of his lead) he will put his hackles , ears pricked up and stares at the other dog until he says hello i feel that he tries to dominant over the other dog is that what he is really doing i have red about a dominant dog on the PC and from your book (how to have the perfect pet) could you please help me out with my dogs body language ?
Hackles up is basically a sign of over arousal, and it very often occurs if the dog is feeling unsure and a bit worried.
It's impossible to tell if it is that your dog is obsessed and over interested with other dogs or if he's a little scared without seeing him. If it's something you're concerned about, contact a good, reward based trainer in your area to see what they think of his behaviour.
