Potty training question.............
We just got an 8 week old male springer spaniel and we are having issues with potty training. We have gotten into the habit of taking him outside every hour on the hour. We take him out and usually he will always pee. Lately when we bring him back in the house he almost immediately pees again, on the rug or just on the floor. Are we doing something wrong, are we missing something or is it just him being a puppy?
Dogs do this sort of thing for so many different reasons it's not funny. It could be excitement peeing (especially if you bring him in and play with him right after his walks), it could be his feet have hit a surface in your home that stimulates urination, it could also be that he's saved a little to mark a spot. It could be submission peeing.
Use a good enzyme cleaner to de-scent his spots. I would first try playing with him and getting him to run around after he goes the first time, and see if he'll relieve himself a second time outside-- if he does, problem solved. Otherwise, you might want to tether him to your belt and if he starts showing signs of wanting to go again, just taking him right back outside.
