greeting behavior HELP

Hi everyone!


I have posted much thread about josh and what behavior he is showing well while we were on out walk on Friday night, we met this American Bulldog, and josh say hello then came to me. But the signs that he shows while greeting other dogs is ‘different’ because he will go to greet another dog .With his ears and tail up his eyes on them and making himself looking bigger, but while he is doing this he has his hackles up and to his tail .I can remember when Victoria dealt with Harvey and she said his unconfident when meeting other dogs. Another thing is I was talking to a man whose studying dog behavior or something like that, and he said he is doing something called defense aggression were he makes himself look bigger and will attack first to make himself look stronger but if his doing this why has he got his hackles up ? Is it because he is unconfident ? And would not the other dog pick up on this ?
