Is seven months old too late to start training a puppy? I have suffered a bout of bad health after getting my puppy so his training has been neglected. Now I'm back on form and really want to train him to his full potential.

Nope, not too late at all. So get out those treats and start training!
If his socialization has been put on hold as well, you'll need to see how he does with people, animals, unfamiliar situations, etc. and if he has issues, come on back and our trainers/behaviorists can help you through them.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well.
It's never too old to start training, just remember to be patient. (:

Re: Too late to start training?
absolutely not to late. people adopt dogs much older all the time and successfully train them.
here is a great book if you are interested that shows how to train a dog and comes with a really good 2.5 hour dvd that lets you see the traning in action and the instructor address mistakes of her students.
http://www.amazon.com/Train-Your-Dog-Li ... 131&sr=8-1
There is also Victoria's book http://positively.com/store/books/it-s- ... t-pet.html
and Patrica's book http://www.patriciamcconnell.com/produc ... ining-book
all cover the same basics, roughly the same way, with maybe some additional stuff that the different authors thought were important. Because of the DVD that comes with the first book, I would lean towards it if you don't know which to get.
And of course you can always just ask questions here as well.

Re: Too late to start training?
Thank you for all the replies. I've bought Victoria's book for the kindle and it is a very interesting read so far. I'm already thinking dog when Mac does something. I'm already becoming more aware of his personal space and he seems to want to come to me for a fuss more than ever now that I leave him to it when he goes into his bed with a chew.
