Muddy Mess

Hello: After strenuous exercise, my 3-year-old lab mix finds any water anywhere in which to roll, no matter how muddy or putrid it may be. How do I begin to train her to stop doing this? I don't have a clue. Thanks.

Thats just what dogs do!
You can take steps to avoid it if you want. If she is really thirsty after exercise then taking a bottle of clean water with you to offer her would be good. Or try not to let her get so overheated - though my dog will roll in the middle of winter no matter how cold it is!

If she is rolling for the fun of it and not because she's too warm then its ok to try and stop her if you wanted you could put her on a lead before she gets a chance to roll?

Or if you keep your eyes open and spot water before her you can distract her as she walks past with a treat or a ball...but it has to be something more rewarding than rolling!
