Hello from When Hounds Fly

Post by whenhoundsfly » Sun Jan 03, 2010 9:14 pm

Hello,

My name is Andre, and I am a Positive Reinforcement Clicker trainer from Toronto, Canada and recently opened a +R school here in Toronto.

I exclusively use +R, never use -R, +P, and very very very seldom use -P.

Currently I am working to complete and enhance my knowledge of animal training and behavior through the Karen Pryor Academy.

More info about my school can be found here = http://www.whenhoundsfly.com

I also maintain a dog blog at http://www.bayingbeagle.com

I have a 6 year old Beagle (Duke) that I rescued years ago and through +R and classical counter conditioning/desensitization, got him to overcome on-leash reactivity towards dogs, as well as separation anxiety.

I foster unwanted dogs as well, and am currently fostering a 5 year old Beagle named Petey that is a fear-biter. Slowly I am working to condition him to accept firmer handling (I can now clean his feet and dry his body) and also soften his hard mouth (he has gone from biting to injure - breaking skin/blood to merely air biting or light touching now).

Here's a video of me free-shaping Petey to jump into a cardboard box:

I also am training a Goldfish through operant conditioning as well - to swim through a hoop and follow a target stick:

I do love your program, Victoria, and encourage as many of my students to tune in.

Tailwags and clicks,

Andre

You're training a GOLDFISH?! Oh my gosh! That's a bit unusual, isn't it? Welcome, Andre. I'm sure you will be an asset here.
If an opportunity comes to you in life, say yes first, even if you don't know how to do it.
