Crate trained 2 1/2 yr old now won't sleep in crate

Hi, we have a 2 1/2 yr old Maltese named Tilly. We crate trained her when we got her at 3 mos old to sleep in her crate. The last month or so she has been waking during the night and whining, howling and even barking to get out and is more then happy to go back to sleep on our lap in the recliner. She doesn't need to go potty just wants company I guess. Help, we need our sleep, don't want her to sleep with us at night.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. If you would post over in the Dog Training Advice forum, more people will see your post. Also, if you could include as much detail about Tilly's schedule as possible: what/when she's feed, what exercise she gets, what sort of training you do and how often, how much time she spends alone, if she has had a vet check recently and any health problems - basically a run down of everything she does in a day.

Also, can you think of anything that happened and/or changed about the time that she stopped sleeping through the night?

- are you getting out of bed to let her out, and then sitting in the recliner, or do you sleep in the recliner?

don't want her to sleep with us at night.

Also, if you would clarify if you mean you don't want her to sleep in your bed, or if you don't want her crate in your room at all.
