Dog Breeds or Personalities that may Travel Better

I've been lurking and reading more than posting lately. It's the job, and that I'm not quite as hands on with dogs and training as I use to be. I did find a shelter here to volunteer at despite my TBD length of stay. I could be at this location 6 months or 2 years, but probably no more than that. The shelter here sadly is not as 'good' as my last one. They do the best job they can, but I don't agree with some of their methods, practices, and definitions - and I no longer have the time to take on enough responsibility that I may be able to build up towards changing some of their things. (Especially the age they fix puppies at, and their definition of a puppy).

Anyway - long story short. As much as I have found that I like this company, I have also found that no matter what position you are, you probably will relocate and travel. The traveling, I can probably find a kennel or maybe I'll have a spouse who doesn't travel by this time, but the relocating every 1-5 years I know can be hard on an animal. I also know some breeds or personalities can be more adapt to that type of change.

I'd like to pick your brain a bit, if you know of any breeds or needed personality traits that I can write down in the back of my head. It will be a long time before I get a dog, for my current position has it possible for me to work anywhere from an 8 hour day to a 18 hour day. I have come to decide that I kinda like and want to focus on my career more than dog training and dogs, I do want to keep things in the back of my head though because with this type of job, you really have to plan and commit to finding ways to reduce hours or stay more long term... this also means I need to think ahead on a dog type that would work and not just spontaneously get into anything for it could be really cruel to the dog.

I realize my situation, and even future situation is far from ideal - so I'm trying my best to think ahead so maybe I can map something out, or keep my eyes open. The dog may have go to international too! :-/ Staying put is rare in this company and career sector.

So know of any good travel dog breeds or personality/character traits to look for? I probably won't get a puppy until I retire or switch careers, lol. I do like the job though, which is why I'm trying to think outside of the box a little here.

I'm thinking a small-sized dog would be best for you, because smaller dogs are allowed to be with you up in the salon of the plane rather than in crates somewhere down separated from you. Which would make plane rides acceptable. Smaller dogs, it seems to me, are also more frequently allowed to restaurants, and different places, so you could socialise your dog from early age to be in crowd and different buildings.

I realize that about the size. I like papillons (7-12lbs) and kooikerhondjes (20-25lbs), but most of the dog breeds I enjoy are medium to large in size. Stubnosed breeds I know are banned from airplanes, but I'd try to avoid taking dogs on airplanes as much as possible anyway. I hopefully in my later years will be more able to either drive places or find one of the few jobs that will allow me to stay in a single place for 5-6 years, only traveling on day or week trips. Sometimes I think a spouse or close permanently located friends would be nice for the future, lol.
