Ted does it again

Post by ClareMarsh »

Well bless Ted, he did me proud yesterday.

We've had workmen in the whole weekend fitting new windows (yes I KNOW IT"S DECEMBER!!!!), he greeted them with usual Ted enthusiasm and has settled with me despite all the banging and drilling going on.

Then last night we had a house guest for 7 hours. Little Milo (he's a 3.5lb short haired chi) as in an accident earlier in the week (can't talk about the details) which left him initially dead (mum did CPR for half an hour) then in intensive care, and now he is paralysed down one side of his body. It's hoped he'll recover fully but no one knows for sure. His mum had something she had to go to and so I had Milo for a few hours.

Now Ted isn't a huge fan of other dogs being close to me (he'll push them away so I try to avoid it happening), he's ok with dogs he knows well but he's only met Milo briefly at puppy class.

Letting them greet enough for them to both relax a bit when Milo can't really move was challenging and something that I had to do now and then when Milo was relaxed (he's in a lot of pain) and when I could TOTALLY concentrate (Milo snarked at Ted once or twice which is totally understandable and Ted was removed before he had a chance to move himself). For Ted's part I saw no snarking back, in fact he acknowledged Milo's raised lip and gave him distance despite Milo being on my lap.

He also didn't whine to get to me or try too hard to sniff Milo. Several times he came and gave Milo calming signals and he snoozed next to him a few times. I could also tell Ted wasn't stressed by it and although I've no idea what was going through Ted's head his eye contact with me suggested Ted was fine and knew something was going on with Milo.

All in all Ted once again did me proud.

There's a photo of them on my blog if anyone is interested: http://tinkerwolf.com/2012/12/09/they-s ... g-picture/
