Article: Great Expectations

Post by wvvdiup1 »

An article from Pawsitive Dawgs that tells how we expect our dogs to react/behave in our environment(s) called "Great Expectations". It starts out like this:
Original posting August 5, 2010

On Sunday Ruf and I were at an urban outdoor market raising money for A Dog’s Life.
Looking around at the bustling, busy, vibrating market it struck me just how many millions of foreign stimuli we expect our dogs to be ok with. Well, more than ok, we expect them to behave as we want them even when that is contradictory; for example we expect our dogs to greet all dog lovers with delight but politely ignore all the non-doggie people; to greet all dogs with friendly but reserved behaviour and ignore other dogs when we don’t have time to stop and sniff - you see? we don’t make it easy for our four-legged friends!
