What is that yellow thing in the sky?

Post by ckranz »

Its been so long since we have had a sunny day in SOCAL that it was truly nice to have a warm sunny day for xmas eve. Although I will be flying to a land of snow in ice in the AM, have a wonderful day to spend with my pups in the park was a wonderful gift. Its very rare that I get to take Apollo and Khan together as they can be quite the hooligans together as they are very bonded and littermates. I went to the one park I new I could take both to give them a nice romp together in a limitless field.

They raced after each other frolicked and played in endless fields. We stayed to the parks interior as I did not want them swimming after all the rain...run off pollution and the water is very briny being in mission bay San Diego and I did not want to have to bathe them before ranch camp. Chloe was feeling left out so I took her on a special trip to a different park and there were lots of children for her to meet. She also had a good bit cabin fever and eagerly played chase games with some of the hounds.

I will be leaving to drop them off at the ranch they stay at when my wife and I are vacationing. Its the ranch where I train agility so they get lots of space to play and the ranch owner is just wonderful. Even so no matter how good someone is with my dogs I know that I will miss them very much for the week I am gone.

On the upside...while visiting family I will be helping my niece select a dog for her family. Her fiance has had some bad experiences with large dogs in the past so it makes this selection very important to select the right dog for them. My niece love beagles and there are several in her area for us to meet. I am looking forward to temperament evaluations...Of course she suffer the same conditions as I....give us a hard luck story and we a suckers to ride in for a rescue. This time though I have told her that she should not get a project dog....they are a lot of work and if your soon to be hubby does not have a good experience it will likely be the last dog....I have a narrow list of 5 dogs to meet currently so things do look up.

sounds like you all had a good day.

ya, that yellow thing took me a while to remember what it was today. last I checked, California is due some more rain off and on over the next week. However, if weather patterns hold, we should start seeing more and more dry days. la nina an all. while we do need the water badly, I can't help but selfishly hope we do have a la nina year. after last years rains it would be nice to have a moderate winter.

Have fun on your trip, pick a good pup for your niece.

Sun.... I remember something yellow and bright. In fact, I
saw it this morning. It was great!

We've had sooo much rain here. I've certainly had enough of it,
and even my collies are starting to complain. Wednesday night
we even had thunderstorms. I put the dogs out for a final run
when it was just rain, no thunder. Whiny person that I am, I
stayed inside where it was dry and tried to watch them through
the window. I put out 4 dogs. When I called them in, I got 3
dogs, very eager to come inside. No Seraph.

I went out in the rain, and looked around in the corners of the
yard I couldn't see from inside. No Seraph. I went inside and
looked, just to make sure my counting skills hadn't failed me.
Three dogs inside. No dog outside.

I went back outside in the now heavy rain, which is when the
thunder joined the party, to search again. Still no missing collie.
I began to consider panicking, and my calling became quite a
bit more urgent. And then I heard some bumping sounds. I
shouted again, hoping she was connected to the noise, but unable
to locate its source. More bumping sounds, and I realized that
my trash bin, one of those huge wheeled things, was on its side,
probably blown over in the storm. And from this big, fortunately
emptied that morning bin, I saw a long white nose and one eye
peek out. My Scottish dog with the huge coat designed to handle
bad weather was hiding from the rain in my trash bin. She flatly
refusing to leave her shelter and come out in the wet again. Not
even for the promise of warm and dry bed was she going to get
even wetter. I had to go out there and coax her out of the bin
and escort her inside.

We live in the desert, and the novelty of rain and cloudy days has
definitely worn off. This morning our Christmas dawned with the
return of bright sunshine, and the lake that had gathered by the
gate has finally drained away, so the girls had a lovely romp. They
have now retired to their beds with Christmas chewies and much
happier moods. I'm about to do the same thing, with the addition
of some DVDs and better snacks.

Wishing everyone a safe, warm and dry holiday, whichever holiday
you choose to celebrate.

When I took Karma out for a long walk this morning, we were getting snow showers; yet, I saw something in the sky that was white and round! :? Was it a bird, a UFO? :? No, it was the sun, shining through the snow showers! However, I did see something else that was unusual this time of the year, especially in these parts of the U.S., and it was a rainbow!

Sorry, no leprechauns, elves, or even a pot of gold was found! :(

Well to follow up we met several dogs today and found the perfect dog. My niece and her fiance just have to finish the adoption paperwork and pay fees, but we found the perfect dog for them. He's a 6yo male beagle who was surrendered to a shelter from a family moving to a location that did not allow dogs. The dog has been around children of all ages and cats and did well.

He allows paw handling font and rear, Tail holding, ear examination, teeth and mouth examination. Loves to be petted and tolerates hugging. He sits on command, and seems to have a good recall. He is very quiet (unbeagle like) but that's perfect for condo living. His weight is ideal and afterwards we went over food advice for finding a readily available good quality food.

My niece is overjoyed, her fiance is happy that she is happy. As his experience have not been all good he is letting her get a dog because he wants her to be happy. I think we made a great selection.
