Merlin

Post by Mattie »

I have just had to leave Merlin in the vets, he is really ill and had to be carried into the back where the kennels are.

He was ill over night last Saturday and brought up some blood, took him to the vets and they took some blood off him and gave him an injection, had to take him back Monday afternoon. He had picked up a lot so vet gave him some Zantac and said to watch him. Last night at supper he ate it at his normal speed, very fast. I got up about 4.30am as normal to let him out, he can't go through the night, he had been sick and had diareah(spelling), cleaned up and went back to bed. When I got up at 7am, it was the same.

Merlin was very shaky on his legs and wasn't able to get in the car, he is too big for me to life in so I started to move all the boxes that are in front of the car ramp. It took quite some time and he was deteriating. Got him to the vets, thank goodness mine is 24 hours and I don't have to make an appointment. The vet was shocked shen she saw him and has kept him in because he could barely stand. It took the vet and a nurse to carry him round, by this time he couldn't walk.

His Auntie Lisa is there doing hydro today so she is going to give him kisses and cuddles between patients, he adores his auntie Lisa.

Please can I have lots of healing thoughts for Merlin, I don't want to loose another so quickly after Joe and Gracie.

Oh Mattie,

What an awful turn! But you've done everything you can to help him. He's got his
vet doing her best, and he's getting all the help they can provide him. Even his Auntie
can be with him a bit today. A friendly face can make things so much better for our
dogs in such circumstances. I know the house must seem empty without him today, and
I wish there was something to do to distract you as you wait.

Sending hugs and prayers and positive vibes and anything else that might be helpful.
You and Merlin will be in our thoughts today. Please keep us posted?

Thanks everyone, Merlin had a good night and his temperature is within the normal range, Greyhounds have higher temperatures than most dogs. He is stablised but not eating yet. I will learn more after the ward rounds late morning.

The vet phoned, it isn't looking good, his creatin levels are up even though he has been on a drip for so long, he is sitting up watching what is going on which is a good sign. They are trying to chase up some blood tests that haven't come back, Adam the consultant phoned in this morning and has been told about Merlin, he may have a kidney infection which only these blood tests will show but they have been pumping him with antibiots since he went in yesterday.

Rachel the vet who phoned isn't very hopefully but did say that a lot can happen in the next 24 hours and asked if she could have this to see if there is an improvement. Of course I said yes, I don't want him suffering but he has to have a chance if there is one and he isn't suffering at the moment, if he does start to suffer they will contact me.
