Website
hi does anyone know how to create a website??
I'm a webdesigner (aside from my day job) so I know how to. If you're interested in building a website, then do what I did - do online tutorials. Here's one that I found when I googled "web design tutorials":
http://www.designyourownweb.com/
I've never used it so I can't vouch for the quality of the site.
You will need an understanding of html and I found these when I googled "html tutorials for beginners":
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ht ... tu&aqi=g10
Good luck.

Your ISP (internet service provider, how you get to the internet) may provide free space for your own website. Or Geocities or other places do too, but you do wind up with ads on your website that aren't subject to your control.
As long as your website is hosted elsewhere, you shouldn't be making yourself more vulnerable to viruses than otherwise.

Website domains
You may also want to find a domain name and purchase it for your exclusive use. I found that http://www.MuttleyDog.com was available so I got it for Muttley's birthday. I use http://www.MyDomain.com as a registrar and it's about $8/year.
If you find a website that is similar to what you want to create, you can view the HTML source with your browser. Then you can modify it with a text editor for your own purposes. But change it enough so that you don't run into copyright problems.
I have used Microsoft Word for simple website design. You can just create the document as you wish and then choose "Save As HTML". There are other tools but learning to use HTML directly is best. There is a newsgroup for website design: news://comp.infosystems.www.authoring.html.
Fancy websites often use JavaScript to do things like offering text boxes and check boxes and radio buttons, and data processing. I made a simple on-line dog license form that uses JavaScript, and again you can view the source in your browser: http://www.smart.net/~pstech/DogLicenseJS.htm
You will also need webspace, which is often provided free by your ISP or else costs only about $5/month. You will need an FTP program, and I found a good one that is free: http://www.nchsoftware.com/classic.
Good luck, and have fun with it!
