The rope is dead....dead I tell you

Post by spydre »

I just had to laugh my tail off last night. Dodger has been chewing on this rope ever since we got him interested in it after we got him. It was a 3 knot rope, one at each end, one in the middle. Well, he had worked on the middle knot enough, broken enough strands that he was able to pull the two ends apart.

One end he has completely taken every strand loose other than the knot.....so if you put it on your head, it would look like a bun with a very long ponytail sticking out of it.

Since he's figured out how to pull the strands loose, he's been working on the other end, and it has the twist in it (albiet a LOT looser) between the knots, but also this huge amount that is just loose strands secured to one knot or the other. He's so proud of this, he carries one peice or another around the house with him, and slept on them last night - sort of like, "I killed it, you can't have it!"

Just had to share.

Absolutely. He is so proud of that darned thing - and since both ends resemble a mop or a wig, he thinks that is just loads more fun than his other rope, or even his Kong. He was in the living room earlier, so they were there, but when he came into the den to sit by me, he had to bring both of them in here. It's going to break my heart to throw that thing away tomorrow, but since he keeps trying to eat the strings, we are going to have to. :)

Maybe you can find a more longer lasting one to replace it, I know no toy is indestructible but maybe there are some rope toys that can stand the wrath of Dodger.

the rope is dead

How funny, My Kai has his rope also. He does not chew it, he drags it around like his blanket. He puts it under the bed during the day, drags it out at night and if one of the other dogs even looks at it he warns them off, then at bedtime he drags it down the hall and back under the bed.
The best days are spent with my dogs.

Derrick was given one of those rope toys for his birthday, it lasted all of 15 minutes, before it died a million deaths.

I now only buy rubber toys. Its less messy

One of my previous bullterriers, could ruin any toy you gave her. I bought her an indestructaball as they were called. Cost me £14 about 7 years ago. It lasted 2 days, and when I took it back to the shop to get a refund, the fella just kept saying, "I can't believe it I can't believe it"
Then one day hubby bought home an old 10 pin bowling ball he had found in a skip. It was the best thing we ever got her, and it lasted months, untill she found out that she could ram in into the line post and break bits off it.

Well, Dodger, is working on the second rope we had at the time we got him. It's a smaller rope - the only knots are on the end, so it's a bit harder for him to trash, but he's already pulled out about half the strings from one strand, lol. So we try to encourage him to play with his Kong, because if he sits down the rope, he just starts pulling the strings out, lol.

Can I just give a little warning on rope toys... I don't mean to be the voice of doom here, but please be careful with rope toys and your dogs.

I was speaking to my friend the other day, and asked how her neighbours dog was... he is a lovely bullie boy, big lad, very chunky and sooo loving. Anyway, someone she knew had given her a rope toy to give him, and with him being still quite young, he ripped it to bits straight away. Well she has not long got back from the vets where he has had to have an operation to remove lots of the strands from the rope toy he had destroyed.

I would hate for anyone else to go through that, or even loose their dogs.
