Spinning, my dog wont stop.

Post by rebeccab »

I have a 3 1/2 yr old pup that is all the time spinning when he isnt chewing up the house or chasing the kids. I do exercise him everyday. So I'm not sure where to start or to help him stop this crazy chasing of his tail. Thanks for all that can help.

If he's a cocker spaniel, are you sure he doesn't suffer from "spinner's disease" (don't laugh)!

He could just be trying to lay down. Many dogs spin before they go to the restroom or lay down. Some do it more than others, depending on the individual dog and spot they are spinning at, and they'll do this as long as needed until they find a good spot. ;)

could be anxious behavior. If it's just a turn or two before he lays down, not to worry, but if he spins for long periods of time, maybe time to get some professional help
As for ripping up the house, when your home, gone or both? Gone, get a kennel for short periods of time.

I find this topic interesting because my neighbor's English Bull Terrier does this along with tail chasing all the time. He also prances then spins out of control and once he goes inside it is running up the steps and chasing tail. He is a funny dog but especially when going up the steps having him do this next to you can be quite dangerous. He also barks when he does this. I love the little guy alot bt we have all tried to figure out what we can do to stop it. I have read up though in English Bull Terrier's it can be a neurological disorderand after reading the following website I think this is what he has however my neighbor insists it is not it.
