food coloring a maltese

Post by K9_girl1994 »

I know it sounds kind of weird, but I am entering my maltese/bichon frise mix into a pet costume contest. I want him to look like the Grinch's dog. He has a haircut that looks like the grinch's dog, so i am al set with that. The problem is I need to dye him brown. I read that you could food dye is fur and it will wash out. I was thinking I could mix different colors to get brown and then make a bath out of it. Do you think it will hurt him in any way, and do you think it would wash out?

Im not sure if it would be bad for his skin or not and it would be hard to tell as thats not what its designed for and he could be allergic to it - you just dont know.

As for washing out, Ive never yet found a food colour that washes out of ANYTHING much and I have spilt it on myself, my clothing and my worktops and floors....(i am a spiller!)

I dont think id put it on a bright white dog - I know as a kid me and my friends could NOT get the red food dye out of the white ponies tail or mane... poor animal had pink hair for months!

 I use to be a profesional dog groomer and we often colored white dogs for people. Food coloring if the safest especialy to orgainc ones and yes it does wash out but not quickly.
You can get a brown from a cake decorating supply store so you won't have to mix it your self. Years ago I use to have a westie who loved to be the center of attention he would be green for st patricks day and different colors for easter and such. Have fun with it.

I get the "Petedge" cat. They have coloring made just for this purpose, you can find them online.

Petedge.com I think. lots of really good stuff besides color. I have been happy using them.
