Re: Banned due to my IP address
Yep, it's happened to me a few times recently. I assumed that my dynamic IP had changed to one that someone had posted spam from and got it banned, but I made a note of my IP address and found that the one I had where it said I was banned was the one I had when it let me log back on again...

Re: Banned due to my IP address
I asked on another forum why this might happen and got this reply:
Now, how admin would go about diagnosing and fixing that is another matter......a) Your ISP might be effectively hiding you, and all their customers behind some sort of giant gateway machine, with multiple "public facing " IP addresses that it dynamically allocates to TCP connections. If you happen to hit a public facing IP address that has been "banned", you'll be banned too. When you try again a few minutes later, you get allocated a different, non-banned public facing IP address and all is fine.
b) You're talking IPv6 whilst the server talks IPv4 and its having to go through a 6to4 gateway with a similar issue to (a),
c) You and/or the remote server can talk IPv4 and IPv6 and one form of address is "banned" and the other isn't and you're getting different address formats from a round robin DNS server somewhere.
d) You have multiple IP addresses, and only one of those matches a "banned" address. For example if you're at home on a wired connection, but can also "see" a nearby wifi access point that is either open or you have credentials for (a neighbour, or nearby library/coffee shop/etc). If its a marginal connection you might even swap between them without noticing.

Re: Banned due to my IP address
I wouldn't get your hopes up too much... several times now I've been banned but can log on a few minutes later without any contact with admin.
