Why dogs do this?

I personally believe animals are capable of doing things and feelings things that we simply can't explain. There is countless evidence proving that animals behave very differently when another animal is under stress, in danger or has died. some ocassions there are animals that behave different when their person has died. That's not counting cats and dogs trapped in a house with their dead human and actually consume the body for survival, which has happened. I'm specifically talking about mourning.

Why do dogs lay next to their person's body or the body of another animal? Are really mourning or is there another reason?
