You'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite from that lot, wouldn't you!

There's nothing of a prize for the winners except loss of copyright for their work so a lot of people who take wonderful dog photos wouldn't enter.
Most of them are lovely, but am I the only one who feels repelled by the distorted nature of the winning shot?

Awww - I love that wrinkly puppy in the garden!
Sadly, this seems to be true of the majority of photo competitions!Nettle wrote:There's nothing of a prize for the winners except loss of copyright for their work so a lot of people who take wonderful dog photos wouldn't enter.

Agreed. Was I the only one a little worried about 16?Nettle wrote: Most of them are lovely, but am I the only one who feels repelled by the distorted nature of the winning shot?
I particularly liked numbers 4, 5, and 10, but other than 1 and 16 they were all wonderful.

No, I was very concerned about number 16 too.

I don't see the issues, I'd be grateful for any explanations to help me learn.

#16 is the shot of the very young child face to face with the little dog. One of the problems I see is that "face to face" (especially with the child holding onto the dog and bending over the dog) is rude and confrontational in dog language. Patricia McConnell has a blog post about how even a highly trained and socialized dog can snap when confronted this way: http://www.patriciamcconnell.com/theoth ... -dog-bitesHerman's Human wrote:I don't see the issues, I'd be grateful for any explanations to help me learn.
I've recently started reading a blog about keeping dogs and kids safe together, and I found this post quite interesting: http://www.dogsandbabieslearning.com/20 ... aby-photo/

I understand now, thank you. That makes sense.

Also look how the child is gripping the dog, and the dog eyeing the child. That is one unhappy dog and one oblivious parent.

I can see the danger now. I saved the site with the photographs so I can go back and look at details. Thanks for helping me learn.
