Scout's little brother!

Post by minkee »

Everyone wanted to know, so here we are :D You may know we were looking at Saluki's (Dan's mum had them when he was little), and also at deerhounds, I steered Dan away from terriers and collies somehow! In the end we were very happy to discover Ibizan hounds - they're long and lanky (which I love), they've got a face that Dan loves (very important!), they're clownish and comedic, lively and springy - we think they're perfect :D

I've got a bunch of photos of Mum below, and her pups. Ours doesn't have a name yet... and we don't even know which one of these little sausages below he will be... but he's in there somewhere!

Oh wow! Mom is gorgeous - and I bet little brother will be too! :) Quite a contrast to Scout, but also similar...

Loverly! What a great choice (and yes, they surecan jump - but all pointy dogs can, so still a good choice.

Pointy dogs!
Very nice. I've never seen one like this, but mum looks great. Need a big fence, though. Huge fence.

Gorgeous dogs! Wow, that one jumping over the fence is beyond impressive. I have always loved the look of long-legged breeds (but I still love my little shortie-legged Piper! )

I can't wait to see your little guy once you pick him out. :D :D He doesn't know it yet, but he's one lucky pup!! :D

Gorgeous dogs. Lots of puppies too. And, WOW can they jump. Can't wait to see which one becomes Scouts little brother.

what an unusual choice! i think it's cool when people pick breeds that are out of the ordinary.

in my neighborhood, darn near every other house is a golden retriever. ........lovely dogs, but it's nice to stand out of the crowd sometimes! can't wait to see pictures when you find out which little guy is yours! congrats.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on with him! :D

Thanks everyone :D I have some more pics of the pups, but they're still very sausagey and passive at this point (2 weeks old)

At the moment my main priorities are to:

Proof Scout everywhere! Just to double check we have no issues.
Give her a super-solid, 'stay' on the couch no matter what I do, in preparation for if I want to train the new pup infront of her.
Make sure the cats have plenty of escape at the new house. Vertical distance is now an issue too! May need to invest in double height stairgates with catholes.

My main worries are:

'Have you forgotten how many grey hairs you got when Scout was a pup??' I'm fully prepared to be stressed out for the next good few months!!
Boy problems! Scout has never humped a thing, and she very VERY rarely marks anything. It will be an experience!
2 untrainers vs 1 trainer

To explain that last one, we're getting a lodger in the new place, a friend of ours who is lovely, and loves dogs, no problems there. But he's the same as my O/H in that he finds it very easy to 'break' Scout! They both do cuddles and fuss when she jumps up for example. One time when he was over here, I showed him 'Chin!' where you say that and put out your hand, and she'll put her head in it. It's a nice trick! But he then proceeded to do it through the whole weekend.... and for the entire next week I couldn't get her to do anything without her putting her chin on it first! So I'm going to have 1 pup and 2 boys to train I think

I think you should put the boys in the shed and keep the pup in the house

Oh those 2 week old pics - I went megapuppybroody.

Look at those tiny puppy paws :D Am sniffing the screen for puppy smell :D

Can't wait to watch this unfold Minkee. Boy dogs are great but they do need to wee on EVERYTHING, and toilet training in the winter, I hope you have a huge down coat :D

Ted didn't start humping until he was about 6/9 months oldish, but then he didn't have a girl dog to lead him astray.

But yes, biggest challenge will be the people boys, can you clicker train them?
