I hope they get blacklisted by google, thenemmabeth wrote:I think I've got shot of it all!
I did attempt to email the company - they know, they don't care. They have paid for search engine optimisation and they do not care how that happens (unlike a couple of vet companies we had spamming here recently who were pretty horrified to find out!).
Re: Vent!
I'm quietly hoping for a follow up another 3 years on (that must be coming up soon, right?) where things are slowly improving. Wishful thinking?ClareMarsh wrote:Yeah, and the follow up, three years on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt5VO_GAcvc. There's also a blog http://pedigreedogsexposed.blogspot.co.uk/
At least when I search that blog Ibizan Hounds only come up 3 times, all in comments and none negative*. Not a surprise, because health and ability is exactly one of the reasons I chose them, but nice to have no surprises
*Unless you count the one where someone trimmed their ibi's whiskers off and he started running into trees That's user error rather than hardware malfunction though.

Re: Vent!
Y'all were so outraged when a lame dog won best b;tch at Crufts, I guess I assumed that's how the rest of the breeding/show world was. I should have known the users here would be an anomaly in that area, as well! I can't believe it's so commonplace for downright unhealthy animals to win at shows.
I cried when they showed the CKC with severe syringomyelia.

The FuglyDog tumblr is also interesting for dog conformation issues. The admin is pretty funny, but the issues are pretty serious. They also decry the tiny gene pools caused by closed stud books.
Be warned that the dogs can be terrifyingly, depressingly malformed, like the Peke.

Re: Vent!
Like all documentaries though, that one was VERY picky... they filmed for a couple of YEARS to find the really shocking footage (like the CKCS woman and also the tweedy shocker Ridgeback lady).
They were also a little devious with the truth - some of the dogs featured suffering horrid conditions (one of the CKCS and the boxer with epilepsy), were NOT from even KC registering breeders but originated in puppy farms, and had absolutely nothing to do with the show ring at all.
Even now, they will not acknowledge that whilst yes, they did put a much needed rocket up the Kennel Clubs backside, they did also give puppy farmers and backyard breeders, particularly those producing the 'designer' crossbreeds, pretty much carte blanche to write their own cheques and market non KC reg, and non pedigree dogs as being free of all the problems featured.
It really didn't make it clear enough that these problems occur when ANYONE breeds badly, it made it sound like they ONLY occur in pedigree animals, particularly Kennel Club registered ones

Re: Vent!
I *hope* that it was somewhat exaggerated.
On an apparently controversial note, I was surprised that many consider BAT to be "like using a choke chain" because there can be R- involved.

Re: Vent!
Is this a show in the UK? Hadn't heard about it here in the US.
I does sound like someone is hiding the truth.
What is the name of this program & can it be found online?
I'm not sure I would want to see it, though, after hearing your comments.

Re: Vent!
It was a UK show Diane. You can watch it on the links to you tube posted in the top two posts of this thread. Onceinaweil posted the original and I posted the follow up. They are not for the faint hearted that's for sure.

Re: Vent!
Nowt like looking after other peoples dogs to make you appreciate your own. Mine are far from perfect but a damn sight better behaved than most I walk. And I'm forever feeling guilty if I don't have much time for mine, but they have a far far nicer life than some I walk as well

Ya, I have been hearing stuff too. So far, the stuff I have herd comes off pretty weak and raises more questions about the person making the claims against BAT than BAT it's self.OnceInAWeil wrote:On an apparently controversial note, I was surprised that many consider BAT to be "like using a choke chain" because there can be R- involved.
Re: Vent!
there are agendas at play on both sides. keeping that in mind helps sift out the over the top claims, the sensationalistic aspects, and the denial. all of which could be applied to both sides. the film makers and the show people they choose to highlight.DianeLDL wrote:Is this a show in the UK? Re: Vent!
I'm a little riled up today. Talk of CM has set me off on one!
I have left my breeders facebook group because of all the talk about dominance, people recommending CM, etc. I made a couple of comments suggesting alternative training methods and felt I was completely ignored, so I left the group.
But now I feel I should maybe message the breeder and explain way. I would also want to suggest she promote positive training methods on her facebook group and even include a reading list in her puppy pack to set new owners on a good starting point. Is this unreasonable? I feel as a breeder she has a responsibility. Or am I being unreasonalbe because of the frustrated mood I'm in?
Out of curiosity though - what books can anyone recommend for new puppy owner?
