JMHO, but it seems to me that your dog is not the problem; your father is. The title of this thread should be "Barking Father," rather than "Barking Boxer." Have you tried getting your father to watch Victoria's show? Short of that, the only suggestion I have is to put your fathe...

Just to add to Maxy's advice; you may want to change the location of the treats to a place that is not so convenient for you or him. For example, I have Annie's cookies in the pantry. She frequently asks for her cookies, by going to the pantry and pointing the door. If I'm not there to see her, she ...

I've thought this one over for a couple of days, but at the risk of sounding stupid, I'm going to respond afterall: I realize I am a person, and not a dog, but I too have developed some arthritis in my knees, since I've had several injuries in my youth. But I only have two legs, as opposed to a dog,...

I only have one so far: Rub the kitten gently with a couple of old towels, and place one under each of his sets of feed bowls, one at his "real" house, and one at your place. He will be able to detect the kitten's scent every time he eats, forming a positive association. It will also help ...

I think you need to discuss this with the vet to start with, just to make sure she doesn't have any kind of blockages, and that everything "works."

Aside from that, I don't have any ideas, but I'm confident someone else will.

Wow! I read that article many years ago, long before I ever had a dog (I can't believe it's still there). I can say that a lot of my relationship with Annie has been greatly influenced by what I read in that article. In fact, some of my acquaintances have commented that they saw me out walking my do...

Adopting a second dog/helping it go smoothly

We have decided to adopt a second dog. We've already picked her out, submitted an application to adopt, and have been approved. We will go get her in just two weeks. Here are the stats on both dogs: Current dog is a five year old (spayed) female, English Springer Spaniel mix. She is an absolute joy ...

Your dog sounds very well-adjusted. By protecting her, you will keep her that way. You sound a very caring owner. Thank you Nettle. You don't know how much that means to me. Especially considering how insecure she was when I brought her home from the shelter, when she was just a baby. She has indee...

Dinovites-- anyone tried it? Does it work?

Hi-- I've been tasked by dh to find out if anyone has tried Dinovites, and whether they work. He says he saw an ad for them, claiming to clear up a dog's ears so we never have to flush them again. (Although Annie does not like having her ears flushed -- we have that blue stuff the vet gave us-- she ...

Question about dog socialization ettiquette

Okay, I've got a question that I have been looking and looking, yet still have not found an answer to-- certainly not a concrete answer, anyhow. Here's the situation: There are some dogs that do certain things that really annoy my dog, and she will let them know she doesn't appreciate it. For exampl...

Sorry, I didn't save the link, however, I did cross-check on more than one site just to be sure. To get there, I did a google search, "Christmas Cactus toxic to pets?" The links I chose had generous lists of safe and toxic house plants. Another search cue could be "list of pet safe ho...

Mattie, my Annie has that exact same harness! It's so much more comfortable for her, and gives me so much more peace of mind regarding her neck and windpipe. To answer the OP, I bought my harness (just like Mattie's) at Wal-mart, for $15.00 And Annie only wears it when she's on leash, which means go...
