Re: 7 month Heeler still chewing on wood furniture?
Some people are not going to think this is a good idea but it has worked for me. Alum powder, you use it in pickleing. Make a thin wash and paint it on the wood. It tastes really nasty. Not to worry, it won't hurt the dog or the wood and it will wash off easily after the dog has learned that chewing...

Re: Are rawhide bones good for puppies?
Just my opinion but I never gave a puppy a raw hide bone, not until they were about a year old and I really limit how often they get them. Even Maia at 4 /12, Kai at 3 1/2 and Tre 2 1/2 half I really limit how often they get them and for how long they get them. I give other really hard bones for the...

Re: How much exercise?
Nettie, thank you for posting about going out to let the dog be comfortable with the world outside. I to do this with my puppies. Just sit or stand where there is much going on to get them comfortable. One of our off leash parks has a small and shy dog fenced area that is wonderful. They can run and...

Re: Dog born with mental issues?
I just watched an episode on Touch and treat. I have done this for many years. I like to use Moist and Meaty bits that I get from my local grocery store. You get alot of them for really cheap money, It has a really strong smell and they will stand on their heads to get it. I keep a handfull in my po...

Re: Puppy coats and shelters
there could be any number of reason's for being left at the shelter, unwanted breeding, people could no longer keep them, they were moving, already had to many dogs. The good news is that they were rescued and found good forever homes. I think there is a breed of Aussie that is miniture but I could ...

Re: Clipping or Grinding?
PS, I got a grinder but did not like it because it caused the nail to get hot and burn and since they are not fond of having their feet messed with, the clip is quicker for me. I have a friend that comes down, she has a treat in her hand that she only allows them to lick and are distracted from what...

Re: Clipping or Grinding?
I clip and then follow up with my emery board to smooth the rough edges. Like another poster, my dogs nails are black so I have to be really careful, I only take a little off at a time.

Re: Tug of War
My gang loves tug of war, I do not allow rough play with humans however since they don't know who is willing to play rough and who not to, my 95 year old father in law is NOT a person I want them to play rough with. So long as you make the rules, tug of war is great fun for both of you.

Re: Time to pull my socks up!
Even people who have had many puppies in thier life time, me for one, has felt I should have had my head examined for having another. Puppies are just like human children, and believe me there are times when my kids were little that I seriously questioned why in the name of all reason would I want c...

Re: Toys to keep your dog busy
You might look into a dog walker that can take the dog out while you rest. I trade with my girlfriend up the street, I watch her dog while she needs to be gone, she clips my dogs nails since I have a back injury that won't allow me to bend over without pain, it works out beautifully for both of us.

Dogs sleep many hours a day. It goes back to the time when they were wild.

Were is her bed? In a crate?, laundry room? Need a little more information. It is not normal for a dog to wee or poo where it sleeps or eats.

Re: Dog born with mental issues?
With so much over breeding is it any wonder that your going to get dogs with "issues" Just look at the explosion of Collie breeding when Lassie came out. Some of the were so over bred you had to teach them to even eat. Even the most well bred dog can have quirks, some funny and good, some ...
