I'm glad he finally found a caring home :D Dealing with fear this serious is something a behaviourist can help you with, classical conditioning is helpful in most of these cases but you will need help learning how to institute it...

Just to clarify for you the desensitization/kennel question. Since the issue is not being in the crate itself, but is more based on YOU being out you do not need to let her out of the kennel etc when you return during the short outings. The books are correct about the whining, letting her out REWARD...

Diante, You are welcome. LOL. The BBD club is just a term used by a lot of rescue people. The hardest dogs to adopt out are Big Black Dogs...it's almost a given that even if there are dogs of the same size and temperament the BBD's are often the last to get adopted. People seem to have an almost vis...

Start out with very short periods of time, pretending to leave and coming back in. Putting on your coat and not leaving. Etc. Make sure she has had a good w...

The only time Cracker has ever had indoor voiding issues was while she was home alone. She also whines an...

Darn Humans! This could be a real issue of fear in your dachsies. I highly recommend getting a positive reinforcement trainer in to assess the situation and give you some ideas as to how to help your pups cope (and your poor family!). For the time being, when men are coming or going in your home, tr...

Wow,you surely need to be a member of the BBD Club! (that would be Big Black Dog for those who don't know..lol) I agree that over-friendliness, especially in larger dogs like yours, can be an issue. Not only does it make your job harder but over excitement can trigger reactivity in other dogs on lea...

IF your little guy has never used a crate before, or had been crate trained improperly it can take some time to get him comfortable being in there. I would move slowly with this. Do you use a clicker? ( a marker word is fine if not). It may be that putting the treat inside the crate to lure him is a...
