Re: Caring for a Puppy (irresponsible owners)
Suzette, since she's not my puppy I can't really do anything as radical as that, though I can suggest it. Its a good idea. Sarah, the other dog only goes in the kitchen because she doesn't like going in the garden. She goes to the loo on her walks so me and the boyfriend are taking her for a walk la...

Re: Caring for a Puppy (irresponsible owners)
Thank you both. My dog is the only dog I've had from a pup, and though I was only 13 at the time I did everything myself and dare I say it, I did a pretty good job and he's a superstar and my best friend. Many people have said to me that they'd love to have a dog if it was going to be like mine. He ...

Re: Caring for a Puppy (irresponsible owners)
Its actually worse than I thought today. Yesterday she at least did a few wees outside for me. Today everytime I've taken her out she just sits or lies down by me, cries by the door, or wanders round sniffing so I think she's going to go and then the wind blows and frightens her and its back to squa...

Caring for a Puppy (irresponsible owners)
I live in a house with my boyfriend and his family - 5 adults, a toddler and 2 dogs (1 dog and a ***** 7/8years old) So naturally my boyfriends parents thought it would be a good idea to get a puppy! She's an 11 week old Lakeland terrier and we've had her nearly a week, and already it has been left ...

Re: Quick Advice needed please
Ok. so I have been splitting each meal into 3 - divided between bowl, Kong and cardboard box/tube and newspaper. As well as keeping a few handfuls of kibble to use as training treats. The dogs enjoy this, but it still doesn't keep them quiet for long enough! My cousin assured me that if I let them o...

Re: Quick Advice needed please
Thank you. You have very good advice! Yes I know two pups is a bad idea, and this breed is totally unsuitable for my cousins lifestyle, and I advised her against it. But now she has them I'd at least like to try and help her as much as possible. They have regular meals, and they have Kong toys - tho...

Quick Advice needed please
I'm dog sitting my cousins two border collie puppies (brothers, 5-6 months old, possibly German Shepherd in there somewhere too!) whilst she is on holiday for a week. I arrived today (staying at their house) and they are obviously bored as they have destroyed "their" room. And bark and whi...

Re: Treating Skin Allergies in Dogs
I wish it was that simple. My boyfriends dog has severe skin and ear allergies, and has nasty sores from scratching. She is allergic to pollen, sawdust, and carpet mites. Try eliminating them from the environment! She is on steroids, antihistamines, and has an antifungal bath treatment every few day...

Allergies
My boyfriends parents dog (6 year old Welsh Terrier b itch) has very severe allergies. Her ears and feet are especially bad, to the point where she has almost blocked her ears up completely with scar tissue and has no fur left on her feet. She is on half a steriod tablet and 2 or 3 Piriton a day, an...

Re: To be on the couch or not to be on the couch...
Its easy enough to teach them to either only get on the couch/bed when you invite them. Or to teach them to get off when you tell them e.g. if you have visitors. Or teach both. My dog has always been allowed on the bed and couch, but still always "asks" to be allowed up on the bed. I didn'...
