Dog with a medical problem being bullied by housemates
Good evening, I have a client with three great dogs. One dog is currently being treated for congestive heart failure, and is definitely slowing down, becoming weaker, and dropping weight (all inevitable, unfortunately). All three dogs in the household used to get along great until heart failure dog ...

Re: How hard can a toothless dog bite?
I've been bitten by toothless dogs - still hurts like a b!tc# I swear they develop stronger jaws to compensate.
In case you were wondering - chihuahua. Left a decent bruise.

The lupus would also explain the kidneys and possibly even cardiac arrest. So sorry about the diagnosis

Full bloods including chemistry, CBC, and thyroid. Full thickness punch biopsy (will likely need sedation or general anesthesia). Bacterial culture and sensitivity. Fungal culture. Surgical removal and debridement of all lesions with histopathology. Where are you in the world? No matter where you ar...

Re: Gorgeous... but not for me
Dobermans. So beautiful, so gentle, I love them. But I just can't take the health issues, namely heart disease and cancers, that frequently cut their lives short. Same thing with Cavaliers - beautiful sweet dogs but knowing their health problems I just can't do it.

I echo Nettle.
Try antlers, bully sticks, or make you own jerky instead (no store-bought jerkies).

Re: Interesting read on vets!
Hi there, vet here. Disclaimer - US vet. I'll be honest, I couldn't finish the article because it was that full of crap. Can I say crap on here? Put it this way, Cricket's done much prettier and much more tightly coiled piles in my front yard. When we discover a problem - and I'll use the Greyhound ...

Re: More then one dog?
I fostered my second dog for a rescue with promises that it would likely be a short-term deal. Seven months later she was still in my house with minimal interest from the public. I was getting to graduate vet school. I was too lazy to return the dog to the rescue before I left town. I'm only partial...

Re: Vent!
it was wrong of the woman to bring the dog into a situation he was clearly not comfortable with. Well... Alright, so I have a client with sleep apnea, and my patient is his sleep apnea service dog. Basically the dog was trained (legitimately) to wake him when he stops breathing in his sleep. By the...

Behavior and Diet
Not looking for advice, just sharing my experience. Chance is an almost 6 year-old neutered male Kittitian pit bull. His gut has always been sort of finicky. I've found very few foods that result in normal defecations. During vet school, I had the ability to receive discounted dog food through a var...

You'd be shocked how many people insist that Scruffy [can't be dying/have cancer/need important diagnostics/was okay to wait 5 days while shooting blood and mucus from his butt] because his nose is still cold and wet and he still loves his treats  . On the flip side, I've had a few people brin...

Been a while, *hello!* People looking for a quick fix - I have a new client who brought their middle aged/older toy poodle in for vaccines. As always, I asked, "And is little so-and-so experiencing any issues right now?" Owner shows me a video of one owner laying down on the couch and litt...

Re: Crohn's disease and raw feeding
By Crohn's, do you mean inflammatory bowel disease? We don't have a "Crohn's disease" in the vet world, but we do recognize IBD, or food intolerance. Most often, the dog is intolerant of the protein source (IE chicken, beef, etc), but there are a rare few who have issues with wheat, corn, ...
