Re: So close, yet so far. Potty training

Is it possible that he just wants to go out for a walk outside and just happens to pee out there so i think he wanted to go out BECAUSE he had to pee and not just because he wanted to take advantage of a nice day? or am i anthropomorphising my dog again? I've been doing a lot of "leave it"...

Re: So close, yet so far. Potty training

UPDATE: took Bax to the vet today. Apparently he's fine. All of the symptoms I described the vet attributes to stress, from pottying in the house (he called it "spite peeing") to obsessively begging for my attention. Anyone have any recommendations for decreasing my dogs stress? (He also s...

Re: So close, yet so far. Potty training

It's frustrating to because for the past week or so he's been "asking" constantly. He downs, sits, whines a little, tries to paw at me. Usually he reserves this behavior for two things, when he needs to go out, and when he wants his dinner. Lately though he's been doing it constantly. I'll...

Re: So close, yet so far. Potty training

.... And now he just peed in the kitchen. Hard floor, replaced last month. I wasn't there to see it but he was the only one with access to it. What am I doing wrong? Nothing has changed, same food, same amount of water. He doesn't seem unusually stressed. Same amount of exercise. Why would he sudden...

Re: So close, yet so far. Potty training

These rugs were brand new, they'd been purchased after we tore out the carpet and he'd been accident free for over a month. I try to take him out every 1-2 hours and any additional times he asks. He's 1.5 years old he should be able to hold it that long right? (He has recently been to a vet and they...

So close, yet so far. Potty training

Sorry to keep posting so many questions but it seems like every time i turn around Bax has something new up his sleeve. :( So i have a 1.5 year old rat terrier named Bax. He goes out to potty about 7 times a days a day. He has 3 regular times i take him out, once when he wakes me up in the morning h...

Re: Should I be worried about 'fair'?

Thanks, I don't want Bax to be a bully with other dogs but i just wasn't sure if he was doing something wrong in the first place, or if he was, how to correct it.

thanks for the advice i'll keep working on them!

Should I be worried about 'fair'?

So i have a 1.5 year old rat terrier named Bax. My sister has a 3ish year old chihuahua named Ki. I just have a quick question about the concept of 'dominance'. If I try to give Ki a treat Bax will lunge for it. He'll push Ki out of the way just by being near him. If Ki is on my lap getting pet Bax ...

Re: Puppy Growling and Barking

My dog Bax has a similar issue. He especially doesn't like men. for me the key has been to not force an interaction. Everyone who walks up doesn't have to pet him or even get close. If someone he growls at is willing I'll have them throw a few treats on the ground. If Bax eats them then I'll have th...

Re: Longer lasting kong

I've used tissue boxes before and had him tear them up, I guess I can just do that more. it will help him build some confidence to. (he was a bit jittery with sooo much scary new stuff like a box full of treats and newspaper. he likes to think he's a tough guy... but not so much) And no, I didn't kn...

Longer lasting kong

Hi, so I have a 1.5 year old Rat Terrier named Bax and I'm at my wits end. he LOVES to chew and i try very hard to keep him occupied with a variety of bones and chews. he loves nyla bones and antlers and the occasional raw hide or bully stick (he doesn't get those often, he has a sensitive stomach) ...

Re: Do I still treat?

Haha, no, I just scoop it out with my finger. It's gross but it lets me control portions easier and he's jittery about objects in his face. (I did try a long handled wooden spoon and he was scared of it.) It's also less gross then his premium treats (lightly warmed liverwurst) I'll have to try out t...

Re: Do I still treat?

Yeah i was hoping for a more consistent sit before i pushed for a longer one. Should i try for a longer one even if he doesn't consistently give me a short one? His preferred treat is peanut butter (he's a bit picky but it seems to work) so i didn't want to be doing a hand gesture with it in my hand...

Do I still treat?

So my dog Bax gets a bit confused about Sit/Down. He tends to flip a coin and offer whichever behavior he feels like regardless of the command i give. We've been working on it and he seems to do much better with hand signs then with vocal commands (that's a story for another day.) My question is thi...

Watch me

I'm working on teaching my 1.5 yr old rat terrier Bax the "watch me" que. If i say something (anything) in a properly excited tone he'll look at me. If i repeatedly treat him for any behavior he'll walk around with his nose in the air staring at me waiting for the next treat. I guess my pr...
