Re: Bully Sticks
Thanks for the replies! I won't stop raw feeding, I believe in it and know that it's what's best for Piper. All along my assumption was that the tooth issue was just a very odd occurrence and that's just the way things go sometimes. I have been grinding her food (bones and all) while her mouth heals...

Bully Sticks
Piper recently had a nasty slab fracture on one of her large molars that required it to be extracted. I don't know exactly how it happened, but I suspected it was probably just an aberration from gnawing on a beef bone. But when I went to pick her up after her surgery (when it's a large, multi roote...

Re: Housetrained dog eliminating in the house again- how to respond?
In my opinion, she doesn't need discipline, she needs consistency. But first and foremost, she might have a UTI (assuming her mistakes are urine and not feces) and a vet check would confirm or rule that out. That would be my first step in getting to the bottom of this. If all is well there, then I w...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Oh, I hope Jasper is feeling better soon. My daughter's rough collie mix recently cut up two of his paw pads running wildly up and down our paved driveway (my daughter is also my neighbor and we share a driveway). Being a collie, he is not exactly a brave little soldier. He has milked this for...

Re: Food to help with shedding?
I'm surprised no one else has posted on here tbh  Frankly, I wasn't sure what I could say. Shedding is a natural occurrence with dogs that I simply accept. I raw feed Piper (my pembroke corgi) and have since she was 4 months old and while her coat is incredibly healthy and shiny, I per...

Re: Would I be at fault?
With all the ignorant, rampant, anti-pit bull mentality going on around us, I would move heaven and earth to keep Chance away from those three. Turn around, cross the road, stop and ask the guy to corral his little mob before you pass, etc. Because, sadly, many would blame Chance no matter what the ...

Thanks Nettle. She's a tough little cookie, but I always feel anxious when a pet of mine goes under anesthesia for any reason.

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I took Piper to the vets for a checkup and they found she has a slab fracture that goes all the way to the root on the big molar on her right side. Now she is facing an extraction of that tooth. :( I take her in next Tuesday and they tell me because it is a multi-rooted tooth it won't be a simple ex...

Re: Standard poodle
The problem with breeders is that they never tell you the bad points or what breed challenges I may or may not encounter and how to prevent them. Then you haven't found the right breeder yet. Really good breeders, the ones who truly care about the dogs they are reproducing and selling, will tell yo...

Re: Gundogs?
It's true that most goldens never meet a person they don't like, but it was quite easy to train mine to stay with me and not run up to everyone for a meet and greet. Every breed needs to learn impulse control and happily, goldens are quick learners.

Re: Prepping for #2
I will just throw this out there for thought... I believe that some dogs are meant to be "only" dogs. Mine is one of them. Piper loves most other dogs. She gets along very well with them. My daughter's dog Duke is her best doggie friend, they have a blast together. BUT... she is pretty hap...

Re: Dog on dog attacks?
Thanks Nettle, Judy & Ari. All good things to consider if I ever find myself in that position. Some of them I now remember from earlier posts that had escaped my memory, some are new things to consider.
