Re: Vaccinations and Socalization

Unless you've had a dog with parvo eliminate in your yard in the past year or so, your yard should be safe. Parvo is spread through contact with an infected dog's feces or something that has itself had contact with those feces. At the moment, both the front and back yard have no fence. I live in an...

Re: Vaccinations and Socalization

Q1 You can take puppies out to see the world - just don't let them in paces where there are loads of dogs. Socialising isn't about being friends with the world but about being unfazed by stuff in the world - cars, trucks, children, people with hats, carrying bags, everything. I keep trying to find ...

Vaccinations and Socalization

I am planning to get a puppy sometime next year. I wanted to give myself time to prepare and learn as much as I could before getting a puppy. That being said, I find myself being terribly nervous about this early time period. I know for a puppy socialization is extremely important. However, I am ext...

Re: Puppy pads

crate training typically means "teach dog to be comfortable in the crate with the door closed". but in the context of house training it is often used to encourage a dog to hold it "just a little bit longer". crates can't tell a dog where to go. So it's not an issue in this conte...

Re: Puppy pads

pick one that will work best for your situation, train that. you can always change your mind later. That isn't an issue. it's the arbitrary flip flopping that you want to avoid. So you are saying there is no way to do both crate training and an inside potty spot? If you do as you say and just the t...

Train Your Dog Positively

Victoria mentions early in the book in Part One, Section 4 about how she uses the creature on a stick game. I have seen her do this in her show, but I was curious if anyone could tell me the steps in how to cue a puppy/dog into waiting to play the creature on a stick game, so that you can safely mak...

Re: Desperately need potty training help!!

Anyway to re-cap the important points - the surface your dog toilets on NEEDS to be natural. The major problem with dogs toileting indoors or at least, not 'outdoors' is NOT in fact WHERE they are toileting, but WHAT they are toileting ON. Keep it natural, keep it to a surface they'd find and recog...

Re: Breeder Research - Miniature Schnauzer

If you haven't seen it yet, the free " Before You Get Your Puppy " .pdf has a pretty good set of guidelines for finding good breeders. Thank you so much!! I am reading it now. I have loved dogs all my life and been around them. And I have dog bather experience. But there is always more to...

Re: Breeder Research - Miniature Schnauzer

"We have not done any health screenings or tests on the adults." is a HUGE red flag to me. I am actually a little relieved that my worry wasn't completely silly. I feel bad for seeming so picky, but no matter how nice and awesome a person is... it is really important that the puppy I take...

Re: Breeder Research - Miniature Schnauzer

Well done on putting so much research into finding your pups! Others will be better able to advise you on selecting a breeder based on the above, but most importantly - the experts on this board always advise very strongly against getting two pups. It can be a recipe for disaster, and just raising ...

Re: Hello!

Welcome, and good on you for doing your prep well in advance of getting your puppy instead of when you already have them! :) I can't tell from your phrasing if you plan to get two puppies at once. Feel free to have a wander around the board and ask any questions you like! Thank you! And thank you f...

Breeder Research - Miniature Schnauzer

Firstly, I am not planning on getting a puppy (or puppies in my case, I am wanting to get two) right away. While I do want two puppies, I have NO intention of breeding myself. I am thinking sometime Summer 2017 or later. I want to make sure I do all my research on vets, training, the breed, nutritio...

Hello!

Hello everyone!! I'm Alicia and I am 26 years old. I live in the USA. Ermm I am not good at these things. But puppy wise, I am currently trying to learn all I possibly can before I bring home any life time companions. I am wanting to bring home two Miniature Schnauzer puppies. I am waiting until Sum...
