Re: Non crumbly liver cake recipe (with turmeric)

I'm so glad it worked out well for you Judy :D I've been tinkering with the recipe/cooking method for a few years now and this is the one that suits all my needs the best. I have a stick blender too and it can be eh fun getting it all liquid but as you've found the odd lumpy bit doesn't make too muc...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

There was another obstacle down there this morning though... he suddenly noticed a dustbin lorry a long way down the road and ground to a halt (they sometimes make scary hissy noises!). I told him it was fine, he didn't have to get any nearer if he didn't want to, but I didn't want to head back the...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Della - the video of Laufey eating dandelions looks prefectly normal to me, not obsessive by the looks of his body language he's rather enjoying himself at the salad bar :D Hope you feel better soon GWD, gentle walking is great for aiding recovery and there are some who say it may help prevent adhes...

I think they're Irish gypsies ("Travellers") Judy rather than Romany :D if it's the film I'm thinking of.

Re: German Shepherd owners and Nettle , advice please

Great advice from Nettle :D I just want to back up what she's saying. I know it's hard waiting to fulfill your dreams I really truly do. However it's also very important to be in the right place before you take on a dog. Also even with your dream breed bonding might not happen straight away. I adore...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Judy there's an ad on TV that has a dog very like Jasper in it! I didn't catch what it was for as I only saw the very end of it but I'll keep an eye out and see if I can get a link to it! I've been doing a bit more work with Honey's camera shyness as although she was much better about it I realised ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

I see dogs very much on the safe/unsafe works/doesn't work spectrum. This includes their reactions when we are ill (not safe) I do wonder about this Nettle. I wonder how much is related to the "sickness" and how much is related to our behaviour when we are sick. See I'm permanently "...

Re: Annoying Whining

Even ten minutes of mental work is very tiring for dogs. This^ :D don't underestimate how much using their brains settles them down, you might not notice it the first time you do it but this type of stuff really pays off over time. I have a very active intelligent dog and would be run ragged trying...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

But I do get the impression that the majority of dogs do act as if they don't like their owners' disapproval, however you explain it. It really just amuses me that he is so incorrigible  Personally I think that what we often view as "respect" or dislike of a humans disapproval is sim...

Re: Repeat Stages? (Leave It)

Perfect Nettle that sounds ideal :D. Thank you :D I use the don't mob the hand on others peoples dogs as it's very easy to do without needing to say anything to the dog so people don't think I'm ordering their dogs around  I live in an area that has a very dense dog population and often meet th...

Re: my New rough collie puppy

There are good and bad rescues. The ideal is for one which fosters dogs out so they live in a home environment. This is really good advice as dogs who are kept in kennels can develop some serious issues and because they spend very little time with the people who work there they often are unaware of...

Re: Repeat Stages? (Leave It)

Nettle can I be super cheeky and ask how you teach "leave it" :P I backed off on training it as I was using this method and due to Honey's ahem issues I sometimes want her to actively try to get food from my hand so this method just doesn't suit me. I have used that method very sucessfully...
