If my dachshund can figure out how to get on the counter in that part of the kitchen (no drawers to pull out or chairs to hop on) I figure he'll have earned whatever it is he wanted up there :)

Have you tried taking up his water when you're gone? We've had to do that with ours before. Instead of water you could throw some ice cubes in a bowl so they can still get some liquid but it won't fill them up quickly.

We were out PetSmart yesterday and saw this big plastic ball (about the size of the balls in the old ball pits at McDonalds) that you stick in the dog's bowl so it covers up part of the food and they have to roll the ball around to get to the food and it's supposed to slow them down. We put our Beag...

Kole and Lu figured out how to open the undersink cabinet we kept our trashcan in so we started putting a hair-tie around the knobs to keep it shut. We had a halloween party last year and about a week after the party I threw away all of the left over spicy peanuts and candy corn and candy pumpkins a...

That's so sweet!!! My dachshunds would just bark--they don't like yelling at all which is pretty good for mine and my fiance's relationship since we're not allowed to raise our voices at each other or "the boys" as we call the doxies get on the floor between us and bark. And Bruiser would ...

Bruiser used to take his leash on his mouth and do the tug of war thing with us too. Especially if he wanted us to go faster or wouldn't let him go eat a cigarette butt or drink the ditch water or whatever. We were watching IMOTD one day and saw a dog doing the same thing and Victoria switched the l...

Our dachshunds have an ongoing feud with the Great Danes next door. Whenever they are all 4 in their respective backyards they run up and down the fence barking at each other. Some days our dogs start the barking madness some days the GDs start it. But it's most definitely a daily thing at our place...

Bruiser will guard a toy if another dog is simply walking by it--now this depends completely on which toy it is. Some toys are just there and he could really care less about them, others are much more high value toys to him. He also does something like this at the dog park where he'll turn something...

Our beagle Bruiser loves to chase other dogs and when we take him to the off leash dog park his favorite dog to chase is a little Italian greyhound who is far too fast for him to catch. One afternoon he was running as hard and fast as he could after her and his front paws kind of folded under him an...

We don't leave their toys down anymore, that caused some issues so we picked them all up unless we're playing with them at that specific moment. However, I have become something that Bruiser guards. I was sitting on the floor playing with Bru and Kole (the younger of the doxies) and Lu (the older do...

Reintroducing Dogs that got off to a bad start.

On July 13th, 2008 my then boyfriend and I bought our first house and adopted two male dachshunds. Both of the boys are fixed and were raised in a house together, so we got them as a package deal. They're wonderful dogs and have been a great addition to our family. This past Valentine's Day my boyfr...
