Re: Vent!
^Ugh, that's terrible, Wes. The (dobie!) rescue I volunteer at has another trainer there who is very good in some ways, but still subscribes to some older schools of thought...we just had a volunteer post on the rescue forum about her two resident dogs having conflict, and the other trainer suggest...

Re: Vent!
Now I remember why I never look at dog training threads unless they're here! I frequent a beardie forum and a poster inquired advice on her two rescued, female, 1.5 year old dogs not getting on. The most common advice was pack reduction, NILIF, shock collars , and a whole bunch of nons...

Re: Vet response to spaying/neutering article
I've yet to have inappropriate marking, running off, crazed aggression or anything like that in Sampson. It's Remy (who IS neutered) who marks left and right (thankfully no longer in the house) and has attempted to mount a b*tch at daycare. Thankfully I have a lovely vet who promotes raw diets and d...

Re: Doberman aggression
What brand of food is he on and at what age was he neutered? Also, he only gets walked 2-3 times a week? My Dobe boy gets a minimum of three hours walking per DAY. He goes nuts and gets snarky with my almost five year old male Catahoula if he doesn't get this exercise.

Re: Dogs of a feather...
My late APBT, Rosie, HATED all other terriers, pit bull type or otherwise. Being a bait dog, she had good reason to! She did adore pups though, and her one doggy friend was a wolf hybrid. Sampson the dobe seems to get along with most other dogs; he prefers tall, leggy dogs, but gets along famously w...

Re: turkey neck question
Remy doesn't like the meat to touch his fur either - which I don't mind, as he's a light coloured dog. Sam is less discriminating and prefers to make as much of a mess as possible, then attempt to shred his feeding towel after. Glad the turkey necks worked! I haven't tried those with the boys...

Re: Personality Change
Keep in mind too that Catahoulas are not always the best with other dogs. Mine will tolerate them, but does not tolerate rudeness. I agree with a full vet check (including bloodwork) and giving the park a rest. We may like the dog park but the dogs don't always.

I'd take him in a heartbeat if I lived in England. He just sounds like such a happy guy.

Re: Irresponsible
That staffy looked like he was having a blast. No different in my eyes than a dog doing agility. It's clear he did not pick crowded or high-traffic areas to shoot the video, so I see nothing wrong with the vid.

Re: general query re: neuter/spay
My responses are very similar to Ari's. I am in North East US, I have two dogs. One is a two and a bit year old intact male Doberman. I've had him since he was 8-10 weeks old. I'm still not sure if I am going to neuter him; I have few issues with him at the moment aside from some insecurities which ...

Re: Petco dog bowl recalls due to radiation
This actually occurred a short time ago; any bowls on the shelves now have been cleared. They weren't very clear to even us working in the stores about the recall, only releasing this info once we were allowed to put bowls back on the shelves.

Just wanted to jump in quick. Pit bull is a breed as well as a type - the American Pit Bull Terrier. My Rosie was pure APBT - 40 pounds, not too stocky, and all terrier.

Re: My Puppy Stinks!
I would bet it is the food. Royal Canin really is not a great kibble. Check www.dogfoodanalysis.com - it breaks down and rates dog food brands. I would try switching your pup to a grain-free food; Orijen, EVO, Taste of the Wild are all quality brands and I had good experience with Blue Wilderness be...
